About Course
In yogic science, the mind and the body are not seen as separate. Mental and physical health are two sides of the same coin. Mental issues, not properly handled, will at some point manifest in the body. just as not taking care of the physical body at some point will create disease of mind. As the Greeks said, “mens sana in corpore sano” – “a healthy mind in a healthy body”!
Health is important. Our physical and mental health are our platforms for spiritual ascendance. How high a building can rise depends on the solidity of its foundation
In yogic science, the primary mechanism for ensuring health, mental clarity and energetic vibrancy is proper purification. Over time, the body accumulates toxins absorbed through food, liquids and the environment, that over time can manifest as physical disease. In the same way, thoughts, emotions and experiences that are not properly processed lead to toxicity of the mind. These toxins, in Sanskrit referred to as “ama”, must be purged from the human system at regular intervals, in order to ensure vibrant health.
The human system is composed of five elements: earth, water, fire, air and space. Earth represents our solidity, or physical body. The element of water is reflected in the liquids and moistures of the body, along with the emotions. The respiratory and nervous systems, along with the conscious mind, are manifestations of air, and the digestive process, along with desire and willpower, embodies the element of fire.
In a bhuta-shuddhi, all elements of the human system are cleansed of accumulated toxins and restored to their proper balance. Poison and stagnated energies of body and mind alike are purged from the system, facilitating strength and ease in the body, and clarity and calmness in the mind. The bhuta-shuddhi is a profound spiritual process wherein we not only purge ourselves of bodily impurities, but also of experiences, thoughts patterns and emotions that prevents us from spiritual unfoldment.
The benefits of the bhuta-shuddhi are numerous, among them:
- Improved digestion
- Mental clarity
- Improved vision
- Increased energy levels
- Improved sleep quality
- Cellular renewal
- Improved immune system functioning
- Reduced inflammation
- Increased skin-health
- Increased memory
During these four days, you will participate in a comprehensive purification of the entire psychosomatic system, and receive tools you can employ in your daily life. In addition to learning the practical application of several yogic techniques, you will receive teachings on the traditional, yogic theory that underlies them.
All participants will receive an email prior to the bhuta-shuddhi which contains all necessary information, along with recipes and general guidelines.
Each day of the bhuta-shuddhi will begin with a morning class at 06:30-07:30 AM, Norwegian time (GMT + 2) led by Henrik, our main teacher. The next class will be held in the evening, from 18:00-19:00 PM. Classes are recorded, so that one can miss one or two classes without detriment to the cleanse, if one takes them later. The themes and practices for the four days that constitute the bhuta-shuddhi are segmented according to the spiritual elements and their corresponding chakras.
Below are some of the practices you will learn and engage with during the bhuta-shuddhi process:
- Monofast
In a monofast, we only eat one dish during a set time period. The dish we will be eating for the bhuta-shuddhi process is called kitchari, and is an easily digestible ayurvedic dish designed to nourish and cleanse the system. The dish can be adapted for different allergies, and spices and other ingredients may be omitted/replaced. Consult with us if you have any questions on this!
- Hathayoga
Hathayoga is the yoga of the physical body. When we are in a state of equilibrium, we are able to live fully. We tend to fluctuate between extremes such as desire and apathy or pain and pleasure. When we live life from one extreme to the other, it is impossible to have mental clarity, and without mental clarity, spiritual growth is impossible. In the practice of hathayoga, we harmonize the entire system through balancing, opening and strengthening the physical body. The body and the mind mutually influence each other, and are in a constant state of two-way communication. The harmonization of the physical body stabilizes the breath, which is the physical manifestation of the mind. The harmonization of the breath in turn balances the mind, which creates a state of inner calm, ease and focus.
- Abhyanga
The abhyanga is an ancient and highly esteemed ayurvedic practice, known for its ability to draw out impurities from the body through the skin, strengthen the muscles, improve sleep, enhance circulation and calm the nervous system. The abhyanga involves rubbing warm oil onto the body in a very specific pattern, and will be led by Henrik.
- Nadi shuddhi
The nadi-shuddhi practice is an ancient pranayama, highly praised for its ability to facilitate a natural state of meditative presence. The nadi-shuddhi pranayama balances the nervous system and settles the mind, and harmonizes the ida and pingala nadis, or the lunar and solar energetic channels of the body. This creates a state of deep presence and opens us up to the flow of the sushumna nadi, or pure awareness, allowing our consciousness to move freely, undisturbed by mental blockages.
- The five tibetan rites
The Five Rites is an old tibetan hathayogic exercise specifically developed to activate the main chakras of the body and balance the physiology. The five rites are profound in that they both clear out toxins of the physical body, sharpens the mind and activates the main energetic centers, winds and channels of the subtle body, all at once.

Student Ratings & Reviews
Veldig interessant kurs.
For me the Buda Shuddhi Yogi Fast was a physical and mental cleansing on a deep level. Henrik guided the course and held in such a professional and grounded way that I could easily integrate it into a regular workweek. Thanks to the meals, I never felt starved.
I highly recommend it to anyone seeking realignment and clarity. I’ll definitely want to make it to a yearly ritual.
