Om Vajrapani Hum Pey!

On this rare and auspicious occasion, the gates of the Vajrayāna open to reveal the blazing presence of the Wrathful Ones (Krodha, ཁྲོ་བོ་)—the fierce manifestations of awakened compassion who arise to shatter ignorance and liberate beings from the bonds of delusion.

The Thunderpath is honoured to again offer authentic, traditional tantric initiations, this time into the tantra of Vajrapani, the destroyer of obstacles, the great protector, and the lord of enlightened power.

At the heart of these empowerments stands Vajrapāṇi, Chagna Dorje (ཕྱག་ན་རྡོ་རྗེ་), the mighty bearer of the thunderbolt, Guardian of the Teachings, Lord of Secrets (Guhyapati). This tantra gives us the power to dispel negative spiritual influences, destroy obstacles, and grant spiritual protection both to ourselves and others. Through Vajrapani’s blessings, we are also empowered to purify a physical space, such as a house, of all negative energy. Vajrapani is the very embodiment of enlightened strength, whose thunderous presence dispels the shadows of fear and grants the unshakable courage of bodhicitta.

Alongside him, the Three Wrathful Ones—emanations of wisdom in its most uncompromising form—arise as protectors and liberators. To receive their empowerment is to drink the nectar of fierce compassion, to ignite within one’s being the vajra-fire (vajrāgni, རྡོ་རྗེའི་མེ་) that transforms poison into medicine, anger into clarity, and obstacles into the very path of awakening.

Through the ritual bestowal of abhiṣeka (དབང་, wang), or tantric initiation, we are sealed into the mandala of the deities, receiving their blessings (adhiṣṭhāna, བྱིན་རླབས་) and the permission to practice their profound sādhanas.

Such an empowerment is not merely symbolic—it is the direct transmission of enlightened mindstream, an unbroken current (paramparā, བརྒྱུད་པ་) flowing from the Buddhas through realized masters into the hearts of fortunate disciples.

To encounter this blessing is exceedingly rare. The tantric treasures of wrathful compassion are not given lightly, nor often. They are jewels of the tantric tradition, revealed only when the time and the assembly are ripe.

We are blessed beyond measure that Lama Jhampa Shaneman, an authentic holder of the Gelug lineage, will bestow these empowerments. Lama Jhampa has received his transmissions and training through the peerless lineage of Kyabjé Ling Rinpoche, the senior tutor of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, and is thus firmly grounded in the living current of this authentic tradition. Through his hands, the living power of the lineage descends unbroken, and the fierce blessings of the wrathful deities become present here and now.

When you receive this initiation, you receive an authentic tantric lineage that allows you to practice wrathful compassion. The tantric practice of Vajrapani is excellent for transforming anger into courage, and destroying inner and outer obstacles. It is also a very powerful protection practice, that can be used both for yourself and others.

The initiations will be given physically in Oslo. If you have malas, a bell and a vajra, please bring them, if you want to have them blessed. The stone lapis lazuli is especially sacred to Vajrapani, so if you want to have such a stone charged with this immensely powerful energy, bring it along.

It is also traditional to bring offerings to initiations. If you want to do that, we suggest you bring incense, flowers, food, candy or candles.

After the initiations have been given, we will do the practice together, and then celebrate this joyful occasion with some light snacks, partaking of the offerings, and meeting the other new initiates.

The price of the initiation is 1300, which includes the initiation itself, in addition to two detailed teachings on wrathful compassion with lama Jhampa, the two following Thursdays.

Schedule:

  • November 6th, 16:30: Initiation
  • November 13th, 16:00: Teaching
  • November 20th, 16:00: Teaching

«With vajra in hand you subdue all māras,

Lord of Secrets, wrathful in compassion,

To you, Vajrapāṇi, I pray for protection,

Grant me strength and fearless courage.»

(Gelug liturgi to Vajrapani from Tsongkhapa’s tradition)
